School 21, a 4 to 18 school with a growing reputation for innovation and impact, is an exciting place in which to grow and develop your teaching craft.

We are looking for an excellent English teacher who is passionate about their subject, and is keen to develop their practice in a dynamic and innovative teaching environment. School 21 is an all-through school and your role will have a particular emphasis on the teaching of English from 11-18. Ideally, you will be an experienced English teacher and it is essential that you have a passion for developing the best pedagogy for that age range.

We believe English is an inherently creative subject that requires authentic dialogue between students and texts, students and teachers, and students with each other. It should empower students to confidently, and accurately,  express themselves in both their written and verbal expression. We are looking for a teacher with strong subject knowledge, who has a genuine passion for the subject and is able to foster excellent knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of English in the students that they teach. Furthermore, we wish to appoint someone who will fully embrace the vision of the department, working closely with the team to further develop an innovative and effective curriculum and ensure excellent outcomes for our students.

School 21 is a very special and different kind of place to work in.  All of us are striving to become innovators (rethinking key aspects of education practice), multipliers (growing others and building teams), craftspeople (who think deeply about their practice) and people with integrity and humanity (driven by a strong sense of values and purpose). This is what we are looking for in new members of staff. We empower staff to find their voice and their creativity. We offer collaboration and learning across ages and subjects.  We believe strongly in developing the full potential of all staff.

We have developed a unique approach to oracy including setting up a charity, Voice 21 (https://www.voice21.org/) which is already working with several hundred schools. We also have an innovative real world learning programme, interdisciplinary learning in collaboration with a network of extraordinary organisations: creative, artistic, high tech, professional.

School 21 is committed to being more than just a school. It is built upon a Head, Heart, Hand approach to education and is on the start of a new journey to promote this as the best possible solution to our education sector. By joining the team, you could be part of something truly special.

The successful candidate will be:

  • An excellent teacher and subject specialist
  • Skilled at fostering independent, student-led learning
  • A creative and deep thinker about pedagogy
  • A collaborative planner, able to work across subject disciplines
  • Interested in the growth of every child – Head, Heart and Hand

ABOUT SCHOOL 21:

  • 4 to 18 mixed, inclusive school in the heart of Stratford, Newham
  • Cutting edge pedagogy and curriculum
  • In a unique journey to really rethink what education can look like

WE OFFER:

  • Exceptional CPD

  • Collaborative working across the 4 to 18 school
  • A strong feedback culture so that teachers can develop in areas of their practice that are important to them
