HR Apprentice

Salary information: £13.000 - £18,000 (depending on age) per annum
Start date: ASAP
Location: Stratford, Newham
Contract type: Fixed term contract for 18 months , full time, subject to enhanced DBS check.

Core Purpose

 

To support the HR and Payroll Lead in handling day to day queries and providing HR advice; working on a range of HR processes, ranging from transactional to relatively complex, from recruitment through to retirement; using HR systems to keep records; providing relevant HR information; working on HR changes. 

 

Core Responsibilities

 

  • Deliver excellent customer service on a range of HR queries and requirements, providing solutions, advice and support. Build  expertise in HR matters, improving your ability to handle repeated situations where appropriate. Use agreed systems and processes to deliver services to staff. Plan and organise  work, often without direct supervision, to meet commitments.
  • Use sound questioning and active listening skills to understand requirements and establish root causes before developing HR solutions. Takes ownership through to resolution, escalating complex situations as appropriate.
  • Deal effectively with staff, using sound interpersonal skills and communicating well through a range of media eg phone, face to face, email, internet. Build trust and sound relationships with staff. Handle conflict and sensitive HR situations professionally and confidentially.
  • Consistently support colleagues and HR to achieve results. Build and maintain strong working relationships with others in the team and across HR where necessary.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR performance and service; act on them within the authority of the role. Supports implementation of HR changes/projects with the School.
  • Maintain required and accurate HR records as part of services delivered. Prepares reports and management information from HR data, with interpretation as required.
  • Keep up to date with business changes and HR legal/policy/process changes relevant to the role. Seeks feedback and acts on it to improve  performance and overall capability.

 

Person specification

Knowledge of both Microsoft and Google software packages. Experience of Social Media and websites. Specific knowledge of School MIS systems, preferably SIMS, would be an advantage.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Excellent organisation and administrative skills and the ability to multitask

The post holder must be a strong team player, adaptable, curious to learn and be able to establish effective working relationships with other team members, students, parents, leaders, support staff and outside agencies.
