Politics Curriculum

Ages 16-18

Politics at School 21 supports students to develop their interest and engagement in contemporary politics; an informed understanding of political structures in the UK and globally; and their skills to critically analyse, interpret and evaluate information to reach evidence-based conclusions. Our vision is to develop informed, critical, and engaged citizens who understand the fundamental structures and challenges of political systems. Through exploring British and global politics, students will cultivate analytical skills, empathy, and a commitment to democratic values. This curriculum empowers students to critically evaluate political information, recognize their potential impact in society, and develop a robust understanding of the political mechanisms that shape their lives.

The School 21 approach

The study of Government & Politics revolves around exploring how power is distributed, maintained, and challenged within different political systems. Key concepts include the nature of democracy, the workings of government institutions, and the dynamics of political ideologies. Through an in-depth look at British politics and global systems, students will examine how policies are crafted, interpreted, and enforced, and how individuals and groups exercise influence over government decisions. This knowledge underpins their ability to make informed judgments about political issues and to actively participate as citizens.
