Careers education at School 21 offers a coherent programme that aims to inform, inspire and motivate young people, preparing them for work and helping them to understand where different education and training choices could take them in the future. This is delivered throughout all year groups. We are committed to ensuring that all our students have the opportunity to pursue careers that align with their individual aspirations and allow them to reach their fullest potential. We believe in the importance of providing a well-rounded curriculum that not only provides the academic qualifications necessary for career progression but also includes a variety of extracurricular activities designed to help students create clear, realistic, and ambitious career plans.
School 21 actively invites education and training providers to engage with our students. Our Provider Access Policy outlines the opportunities for providers to connect with students. These events enable providers to visit the school and work directly with students and their families, helping them to explore and shape their future career paths.
Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) is a major contributing factor towards the successful transition into the world of work. This is supported by parents, teachers, professionals and advisory agencies and includes information provided by the DfEs statutory guidance. School 21 is also guided by the eight benchmarks for delivering good career guidance, as identified in the Gatsby ‘Good Career Guidance’ report. The aims and objectives are that students feel confident and well informed about their choices and are able to engage proactively in decisions about the pathways they will take now and in the future.
School 21 is dedicated to ensuring students between Years 7 and 11 receive independent and impartial careers guidance, developing an embedded culture of high expectations and potential attainment.
Information on the range of CEIAG activities available to all School 21 students can be found in the latest version of the Careers Education, Information and Guidance Policy. Our Provider Access Statement can also be found below.
Our aim is that all students have realistic yet audacious aspirations about their future choices, and leave our institution fully equipped with all the necessary experiences, skills and qualifications to be successful in modern Britain.

One of our Key trust values is AMBITION. From the outset students receive a succession of career lessons delivered through the Erdington Edge programme. All students also receive inspirational lessons, assemblies covering career pathways and decision-making topics. Along with meaningful visits to Colleges, Universities in their first term at the academy and all the cohort having the opportunity to visit the Big Bang STEM careers fair in March. They will also have meaningful encounters during ‘futures week’ at our annual careers fair which is well represented from apprenticeship, further and higher education providers and at the apprenticeship fair in March.
Students and parents are given access to the Unifrog website to explore at home and at school.
We had over 20 colleges and universities attend our careers fair. Students were able to engage with representatives from the institutions and were given handbooks to help navigate and make notes.
Financial Times: we had a trip over to the Financial Times head office to gain an insight into the world of media within the financial sector.
We took our students to Newham Town Hall to attend an apprenticeship fair put on by the borough. It was a great opportunity for students to explore alternative pathways pos 16 & 18.
Talk & Tour @ UCL: our students took part in a careers workshop with lots of insightful information about FE choices, finances and much more. We were then able to have a look around the campus and even have a sneak peek at the university campus housing.
