Dear Parents and Carers,
The end of another year! It has been a pleasure to work with such an amazing team of staff and our phenomenal students this year. Every minute of time I spend with our young people I am reminded of the immense privilege it is to work with these youngsters; young people who are going to go on to make such a positive difference in their communities and the world. If ever I’m asked ‘if you could go to dinner with anyone in the world who would it be?’ my answer is always ‘one of our students when they are grown up’ because I can’t wait to see how their characters grow. As teachers and adults we have the pleasure of helping, with you, to shape the characters of young people and help them to form the values that they will live their lives by; seeing them blossom as the years progress is something that brings me real hope for the future.
This has been a busy year and not one without challenges and one where we are still feeling the aftermath of the pandemic. But when I’ve been thinking about the year we’ve had I’m reminded of those clever reverse poems and how you can use them to illustrate that it’s our mindset that can change how we approach things.
I thought I’d share this one – don’t forget to read it backwards, which is where the real message lies!
Today was the absolute worst day ever
And don’t try to convince me that
There’s something good in every day
Because, when you take a closer look,
This world is a pretty evil place.
Even if
Some goodness does shine through once in a while
Satisfaction and happiness don’t last.
And it’s not true that
It’s all in the mind and heart
Because
True happiness can be attained
Only if one’s surroundings are good
It’s not true you can agree exists
I’m sure you can agree that
The reality
Creates
My attitude
It’s true that good exists
I’m sure that you can agree that
The reality
Creates
My attitude
It’s all beyond my control
And you’ll never in a million years hear me say
Today was a very good day
Now read it from bottom to top, the other way,
And see what I really feel about my day.
